Time zones
Every time Zappocity and Mailocity show you, in webmail, the account page and the team admin panel, is in a time zone you can choose. Messages the server sends you, such as sign-in alerts and invitations, use it too.
Which time zone is used
For a mailbox, in webmail:
- The mailbox's own time zone, if its user (or a team admin) chose one.
- Otherwise the team's time zone, if the team's admins set one.
- Otherwise the time zone of the device you are using.
Messages the server sends to a mailbox follow the same order. Their last step is the provider's time zone instead of your device's, because the server cannot know your device.
For a Zappocity account, on the account page: the account's own time zone, else your device's. Mailboxes have their own setting, so a person with several mailboxes can keep them on different clocks.
Choosing yours
- Webmail: Settings → General → Time zone. Pick a zone, or the first choice ("My team's" or "This device's") to have none of your own.
- Account page: the Time zone card under your profile.
- Team admins: People → a mailbox → Time zone sets one member's. Settings → General → Time zone sets the team's, for everyone who has not chosen their own.
Time zones are IANA names such as Europe/London or America/New_York, which follow summer time on their own. A name that is not a real zone is refused.
Calendars, tasks and reminders
The calendar shows days and hours on your chosen clock. An event keeps the time zone it was made in: a 9:00 meeting made in Europe/Paris shows at 8:00 to someone on Europe/London. Tasks' due times, scheduled sending and the "send later" picker also use your chosen zone.
What does not change
- A message's own
Dateheader is written when it is sent and is not rewritten. Your mail app shows it in its own time zone. - Choosing a time zone changes only how times are shown and written. It does not change who you are, who you can send as, or what you can see.
